Tradition is innovation

Moravian winery is pioneering the way to use blockchain in a traditional wine industry. To commemorate its years of continuous innovation, as well as legacy of more than 500 years of the region's wine production, Vino Blatel is launching selected bottles of its limited collection "Cuvée Plachty", named after a vineyard owned in past by John Amos Comenius, on Ethereum blockchain as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

How does it work

Each NFT represents a real bottle of Vino Blatel Cuvée Plachty 2018. The NFT holder is eligible to trade and exchange it for the unique real bottle after September 1st 2021.

Interested buyer can purchase the wine token on OpenSea. The holder of the token is free to hold or trade it to their liking.

From September 1st, 2021, holders of the tokens can ask for the handover of the bottle, that can be done in person in Prague (CZ). Eligibility to buy alcoholic beverages would be checked upon handover. Up to the moment of the handover of the bottle, both Costra Labs and Vino Blatel guarantee that the bottle exists and is untouched. From the moment of the handover (e.g. for secondary sales), none of the companies can guarantee its existence and that it has not been drank – this needs to be checked with the current holder and caution is advised. The token is expected to be burned after the wine is consumed or otherwisely destroyed, which is the responsibility of the token holder and neither Costra Labs, nor Vino Blatel have any possibility of checking or confirming the status of the bottle after the handover. The status of the handover can be checked with Costra Labs at hello@costralabs.com and/or on this website. The wines should be collected by token holders from Costra Labs till Dec 2022; if this would not be the case, Costra Labs will make reasonable effort to contact the owners, however if unsuccessful, it cannot guarantee the handover.

This NFT represents the one real unique bottle only and does not represent any rights to anything else, like the content in metadata (the image which is only illustrative, graphics, text etc.).

Each bottle of the limited collection "Cuvée Plachty" is numbered. Numbers of bottles selected for this tokenization would not be random, but beside of the initial few, will represent an important year in history.

Ten tokens, representing bottles 1-10 were created in mid-July 2021.

Why wine? Why blockchain?

Wine is one of the oldest industries in the world. Known particularly in the "old world" for quite some time, it went through serious modernization during recent decades. Though, none of those was able to solve the problem of counterfeited wines, which cause severe health issues and financial lost for producers. This is not to speak about inefficiencies and lack of transparency in the process.

The NFT Vino Blatel Cuvée Plachty is a proof-of-concept targeted at small to medium wine producers to understand their needs and possibilities in blockchain ecosystem that will allow to judge the sustainability of a long-term and large-scale solution without the need of huge upfront cost for the wine maker.
